This project will be featured in the 29th Annual Hokin Honors Exhibit as well as in the live Exhibition for the 21st Annual Manifest Urban Arts Festival.
This activewear collection pays homage to the 80s & 90s throwback VHS videos I watched in my childhood. I was inspired by the likes of "Dance Workout With Barbie", "The Power Puff Girls", "Jem and the Holograms", as well as newer, more body-inclusive animated series like "Steven Universe", "Star vs. The Forces of Evil" and "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power".
I incorporated a multitude of textiles techniques- including creating appliques, dying my fabric, and developing my first ever surface pattern design.
By developing activewear for a multitude of femmes in different shades and sizes, my intention is to inspire people to feel just as strong and magical as the amazing animated heroines they've seen on TV. When they wear my garments I hope they are able to embody the mystical power and beauty that's already inside their hearts!
