KOHL'S - HOME DECOR DESIGN

During my 2022 internship, I worked on the soft home decor team, designing pillows, curtains, and rugs across several Kohl’s private label brands. I was especially drawn to “Celebrate Together” and “The Big One: Kids”—projects featured in this portfolio.

This experience expanded my creative range and taught me to embrace unfamiliar categories. It showed me that I’m not just an apparel designer—I’m a versatile, curious creative who thrives when exploring new design spaces.

Celebrate 2023 Fall 2023 | Kohl's 2022 Internship Design Development

During my second Kohl’s internship on the Soft Home Decor team, I led design development for the Fall 2023 Celebrate Together Halloween assortment. Pairing seasonal trend research with business needs, I built objective sheets with color standards, textile technique recommendations, and fabric selections—ensuring each product balanced spooky charm with commercial viability.

I presented creative direction in leadership touchpoints and brand reviews—including with Disney—guiding the product from concept through development. This experience sharpened my ability to translate creative vision into actionable plans and deepened my understanding of how storytelling, sourcing, and cross-functional alignment come together in home product design.

The Big One Kids Fall 2023 | Kohl's 2022 Internship Design Challenge

As part of my second Kohl’s internship, I designed a sensory-friendly kids’ soft home collection rooted in inclusive design and sales data. My concept featured four plush pillows: two weighted (unicorn + tiger) for hypersensitive kids, and two fidget-focused (rainbow cloud + palm tree) for hyposensitive users—each tied to top-performing themes like unicorns and safari.

My unicorn pillow was a personal innovation goal, brought to life through cross-functional collaboration with sourcing, tech, and merchant teams. We explored cost, sampling, and vendor alignment to prep the concept for launch. Though the collection was ultimately pulled due to an industry-wide weighted pillow recall, the project strengthened my product development skills and deepened my focus on accessible, emotionally intelligent design.
